Committee Session 2 in DISEC began with some hope for progress on the Rohingya crisis — but as discussions unfolded, that hope started to fade away.

The committee session kicked off with Austria finally waking up, only to deliver a well-aimed strike at Bangladesh, calling them out on their lack of Rohingya support and reminding the room that "Rohingyas are real people, not just a topic for fancy speeches." Savage, Austria.

Meanwhile, Ukraine must’ve thought they were in a courtroom drama, because they once again raised a caucus purely to roast Myanmar — with all the subtlety of a frying pan to the face. Russia and Bangladesh happily joined in the roast session, while the committee’s momentum packed its bags and left the building.

The UK took the floor with confidence, delivered their speech, and sat down like they just solved the crisis. Spoiler: they didn’t. But at least they felt like they cooked.

The USA entered their villain arc, pointing fingers at China for not holding Myanmar accountable. China, stunned but pretending to sip  some “tea”, stayed mostly unfazed. France mumbled something about “equal burden sharing,” but no one really knew what that meant — especially since their version of help seemed to involve lots of talking and minimal doing.

And Japan? The delegate seemed mentally logged into Minecraft. Hopefully they were building shelters for the Rohingya refugees in-game because they certainly were not doing it in real life.

Even the other press agencies, caught between furiously scribbling notes and silently judging the chaos, seemed unsure whether they were covering a committee or a bunch of people letting it out on Myanmar.

After hours of passionate dragging, unproductive caucuses, and repeat performances of Why Myanmar’s Bad?Disec has successfully proved after 2 days you can just gather 20+ people, give them placards and accomplish nothing.

Prayers to the chairs,
