Who would've thought DISEC worked better than sleeping pills.

On the agenda was the Rohingya crisis—mass displacement, human rights violations, the kind of issue that calls for urgency, clarity, and maybe a little humanity. Instead, what we got was a dramatic reading of “How to Waste Two Hours and Achieve Nothing.”It was like one of those overhyped movies which end up being a complete borefest.

Bangladesh started strong-ish. With a front-row seat to the crisis, their delegate called for international aid and funding—which, fair. But by the third repetition of “We need funds,” you could almost hear the rest of the room mumbling “And?” Big ask yet small plans.

Then came Myanmar, expected to be the villain of the session. But to their credit (and surprise), they actually defended themselves—while the UK and Ukraine hurled accusations like dodgeballs in slow motion. Somehow, Myanmar kept composure. Did it help their case? Not really. But points for trying while others fumbled their cue cards.

Belgium chimed in to accuse Myanmar of religious discrimination. A bold and relevant point. Followed by…nothing. No ideas, no solutions. Just till that timer finally ends.

Austria, the main character. They sat like a historical monument—present, quiet, and utterly unmoving. If there was an award for “Most Neutral Delegate,” they’d win it without lifting a placard.

And just when you thought things couldn’t get messier, we hit caucus hour. Motions came out of nowhere as if the delegates were competing to who could raise ore unnecessary caucuses. Half got rejected. The other half led to chaotic conversations that either repeated what had already been said or devolved into tech debates. (Reminder: this is DISEC, not a WhatsApp vs Docs user poll.)

Lets just hope day 2 isn't such a lame day and the delegates actually lock in or continue to cure the sleep deprived.
