The UNODC: Where Alliances, Brain Cells, and Basic Respect Go to DIE

Diplomacy requires unity and respect—two things that were completely absent in the UNODC. The committee showed that it is not just unprepared, but also fundamentally broken, with delegates turning on each other and the press with equal amounts of unprofessionalism. The most shocking moment was the public infighting between the delegates of Colombia and Mexico. Instead of presenting a united front, they engaged in a tense back-and-forth, showing everyone that the committee's alliances are as fragile as their arguments.
This breakdown in decorum extended to the entire room. The Delegate of the UK table-tapped with clueless excitement for everything, including when the Delegate of Mexico openly insulted the press, calling it's role "unimportant" and "useless." This shocking lack of respect for a neutral body is a serious breach of MUN conduct, yet it was met with applause from the entire committee. It seems the delegates of UNODC are so lost in their own chaos that they have forgotten the basics of diplomacy. Before this committee can even dream of solving international disputes, it must first end the civil war happening within its own four walls.
