When Did DISEC Turn Into a Circus?

This weekend's DISEC session had less deliberation and more crossfire, courtesy of Nepal's delegate, who spent Lebanon's own speech literally lobbing toy bullets across the room at them, a bold new interpretation of "constructive engagement" that no delegate handbook has ever endorsed.

Pakistan, meanwhile, treated the floor as more of a suggestion than a rule, cross-talking through much of the session regardless of who technically held it. Whether or not it was Pakistan's turn to speak seemed to matter very little, as the delegate spoke over the room with the same confidence usually reserved for people who actually have the floor.

Adding to the spectacle, the room spent long stretches in fits of laughter, treating a missile proliferation debate with all the seriousness of a comedy show nobody remembers booking tickets for.

Between Nepal's projectiles, Pakistan's constant interruptions, and a committee that couldn't stop giggling long enough to function, DISEC didn't debate disarmament this week so much as perform it, badly, in front of an audience that clearly enjoyed the show more than the substance.
