The Sound of Ignorance

During the press conference for the League of Nations, when the Delegate of Belgium was asked  “During the crisis where everyone was discussing sanctions on Italy, what makes you think that human rights is way more important than what your committee repeatedly emphasizes?”

To which the press got a masterclass in modern diplomacy of an answer- absolutely nothing.

Faced with a prompt contrasting human rights against political pragmatism, the Delegate utilized silence due to a total lack of preparation. Unable to give a viable diplomatic response.

Whereas from the perspective of Belgium, the prioritization of human rights over the strategic nuances emphasized by the League of Nations' coordinating committees comes down to a fundamental clash of core principles. Belgium gave the press nothing, and in doing so, said everything.
