The Silent League: How Futuristic Arab League Replaces Diplomacy With Pure Silence

While other committees are frantically trying to save the world, the Futuristic Arab League has pioneered a bold, new diplomatic breakthrough: doing absolutely nothing at all.

If you walked into the room expecting a fast-paced, futuristic crisis simulation, you would instead find a masterclass in aggressive passive. The POIs had completely disappeared as if they were some endangered species.

During their speeches, they offered zero POIs, leaving the floor entirely stagnant. When critical questions were raised, such as Somalia being asked by Al Bisagal about loan proposals and ceasefires, the response was a resounding silence, followed by "I shall confirm it and let you know”. If hesitation were an Olympic sport, the FAL would have secured a unanimous gold medal.

As the POIs continued, the dais eventually had to intervene, forcing delegates to ask questions under the chair’s discretion. In a committee where debate is expected to flourish naturally, the encouragement to participate became less of an invitation and more of a necessity. Yet even this intervention struggled to compete with the committee's other priorities. While discussions on regional security awaited momentum, the Delegate of Al Bisagal appeared to seize the opportunity for an impromptu photoshoot, enthusiastically posing with the help from a volunteer in the middle of committee proceedings. This left onlookers to wonder whether they had wandered into a campaign shoot instead of a crisis simulation.

Perhaps the FAL is trying a new style of diplomacy, one where photos are more important than POIs, and silence replaces debates. However, if the committee hopes to make progress, delegates may need to spend less time posing for pictures and more time engaging with the issues at hand.
