Peace for Who, Exactly?

The Disarmament and International Security Committee's session on missile proliferation in the Middle East delivered a masterclass in contradiction, courtesy of Iran's delegate. The pitch: Iran seeks only dignity, not conflict, and speaks on behalf of nations across the region.

The follow-through: an agenda built almost entirely around supplying arms into the very conflicts Iran claims to be resisting, despite being widely identified as the party that triggered the current escalation in the first place. Claiming the moral high ground while fueling the fire beneath it is an ambitious position to defend, and this committee wasn't buying it.

Germany fared little better. While the floor debated missile transfers, non-state actors, and export controls, Germany's delegate offered remarkably little on how German citizens might actually be protected if any of this instability reached home. A country known for precision seemed to have misplaced its own contingency plan entirely.

Between Iran's self-contradicting peace pitch Germany's missing homework, DISEC's credibility took a real hit this week, and neither delegate seemed to notice.
